Alberta has once again opened its doors to newcomers through its immigration program. On May 13 and May 15, 2025, the province invited candidates through two different streams of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). A total of 158 invitations were issued across both draws.
What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)?
The AAIP is Alberta’s way of choosing immigrants who have the right skills and experience to help fill job gaps in the province. If you get selected and meet all the requirements, you can receive a provincial nomination, which makes it easier to apply for Canadian permanent residency.

About the Tourism and Hospitality Stream
This was the second draw of the year under the Tourism and Hospitality Stream, which started in 2024. Alberta created this stream to help businesses in the tourism and hospitality industry—like hotels, restaurants, and travel companies—find and keep the workers they need.
To qualify for this stream, you must:
- Be working in Alberta for at least six months in a tourism or hospitality job
- Have a full-time job offer from an approved Alberta employer
- Meet certain language and education standards
This stream is helpful for people already working in Alberta who want to stay permanently.
About the Alberta Opportunity Stream
The draw on May 13 was the second general draw under the Alberta Opportunity Stream in 2025. This stream is broader and allows people from different work backgrounds to apply. In past draws, Alberta focused on aviation and construction professionals, but the May 13 draw did not target any specific occupation.
Nomination Status for 2025
Alberta receives a yearly limit of how many people it can nominate. For 2025, Alberta has been given 4,875 nomination spots. So far, 2,077 have already been used.

What is a provincial nomination?
A provincial nomination is when a Canadian province, like Alberta, officially supports your application for permanent residence. It gives you 600 extra points in the Express Entry system, making your application much stronger.
Do I need a job offer to apply?
Yes, for the Tourism and Hospitality Stream, you must already be working in Alberta and have a valid full-time job offer from an approved employer. For the Alberta Opportunity Stream, having a job in Alberta helps, but the requirements vary by case.
