Sault Ste. Marie and Brandon have just shared the job sectors they’ll focus on for Canada’s new Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) — a special immigration program that helps people move to smaller communities in Canada with a fast-track to Permanent Residence (PR).
If you’ve got a job offer from one of these towns in a listed sector, this could be your chance to become a Canadian Permanent Resident.
What Is the RCIP Program?
The Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) is a new PR program launched by the Canadian government in 2025.
Its goal?
To help smaller towns in Canada fill labour shortages by welcoming skilled foreign workers who want to live and work long-term in these communities.
Who Can Apply?
To apply for PR through RCIP, you must:
- Have a valid job offer from a designated employer in a participating town
- Meet basic education, language, and work experience requirements
- Show you plan to live in the community
- Have enough money to support yourself (proof of funds)
- If you’re already in Canada: You need to have valid temporary resident status
🛑 Note: Each city has a limited number of PR slots per year. So applying early is very important!

Why These Sectors Matter
These “priority sectors” are the most in-demand industries in each city.
👉 Employers in these sectors will be the ones approved to hire foreign workers under the RCIP.
So, if your skills and job experience match these areas, you have a better chance of getting selected for PR.
What’s Next?
As of now, the cities haven’t announced the list of designated employers yet. That will be the next step before job offers can be made.
Other participating communities are also expected to release their sector lists soon.

1. What is CLB?
CLB stands for Canadian Language Benchmark – a way to measure your English or French skills. You’ll need to meet the minimum CLB score for the job you’re applying for.
2. Can I apply without a job offer?
No. RCIP is a job-offer-based program. You need an offer from a designated employer in one of the selected towns.
3. I’m already in Canada. Can I apply?
Yes, but you must have valid temporary resident status (like a work permit or study permit) and keep it until you get PR.
4. What if I don’t work in a priority sector?
You won’t be eligible under RCIP unless your job offer is from a listed sector. Consider looking at other PR pathways like Express Entry or Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
5. How do I find a designated employer?
Each city will soon publish a list of employers who are allowed to hire under RCIP. Follow us at @AskKubeir for updates as soon as they’re available!
🎯 Final Thoughts
RCIP is a great opportunity if you have the right job skills and are open to settling in a smaller Canadian city.
